Here are a few of my favorite things...

Every now and again I stumble across something extra spiffy that makes me say "oh nice!" that I want to share... so here I go sharing!

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad

It's been a while since I wrote here, but I have a cause that has caught my attention...

A few weeks ago Darien Mason's human was banned from Second Life due to TSO infractions. The specific infraction was creating alts to be used as "community alts" to be used by a group of humans to further the role play and story lines.

I believe with all my heart that this was not done to cheat or take advantage of anyone, it was done to facilitate and further a wonderfully detailed and complex role play storyline.

If anyone knows Darien, you know that he is a nonstop story telling machine... committed to weaving a world that we all have in some way large or small taken part in. There was joy in his stories. There was fun. There was silliness. There was intrigue. There was community.

I ask that you all take a moment to log into the Second Life website and go to the support section (link found at the top of the screen right underneath the banner) and look for the "submit a ticket" and fill out the form. I have included the copy of my ticket to give you an idea of what you might like to say.

Thank you for your consideration, and hopefully joining me in getting Darien back on the grid with us.

Summary: Request to reconsider avatar banning

Ticket Type: Technical Issue

Technical issue: I've logged in, but there is a problem

Inworld Issue: Avatar

Did you check the Knowledge Base?: No, I did not check the Knowledge Base

Preferred Language: English

Details: Hello, I am writing to humbly request that Darien Mason's ban case be reopened and reconsidered. Darien Mason, while did in fact break the TSO, he has spent the last few weeks thinking about his actions and regrets them greatly. He is a HUGE part of the victorian steampunk roleplaying community, and his absence from Winterfell, Caledon, Steelhead, Steeltopia and New Babbage has left a hole in all of our lives. I beg you to at least talk to Darian Mason (darien.mason@gmail.com ) to get a feel for his sincerity and reconsider his banning... Please allow him (not his alts) back onto the grid. Thank you for your consideration - Miss Serra Anansi of Winterfell

Okay I admit it...

Traveling Prim Project - Little Prim, Big World

Okay this is cute and fun and I challenge ALL of you to try it! Post a link to your entry here in comments... I will post mine as well :D

Official Traveling Prim Project page

0. The Basics

Make a 2 inch cube, and show the prim your real life. Take pictures and/or video of the experience and submit them to the relevant Flickr and Vimeo groups. Read on for more details.

1. How to Make your RL prim

Here are two templates: with text and without. Customize your cube however you like. If you don’t have a printer, you can make your own! Use any materials that are handy — wood, cardboard, cheese, anything works. Here’s a video of me (not me Serra, but the contest host) finishing up my prim cube.

2. Show your prim your world.

Use a camera, a webcam, a DV cam, whatever you have or want to use. Your prim has never been to the big RL before. Give it the full tourist experience. Share as little or as much as you want with your cube.

3. Document the experience.

Documenting the experience is key. Before anything, drop a full perms prim cube on Ryoken Vendetta inworld so it can be used in the eventual gallery space (slurl to follow soon).

Here’s how to get your cube’s experience(s) on this site:

* Pictures? Upload to Flickr and add them to the group.
* Videos? Upload to Vimeo and add them to the group.
* Stories? Blog em. Let Ryoken Vendetta know and he’ll add your blog for syndication. Tag your posts with “Traveling Prim Project.”

4. Share and connect.

Check back often. As people upload their experiences, they’ll show up here in real time. Visit the gallery space inworld (slurl coming soon) to watch the gallery grow. Encourage all your friends to take part by spread the word however you can.

Let’s see how long we can keep the project going. However, please start documenting before May 1st.

My final grade will be given on May 4th.

SL Burnout

*heaves a heavy sigh* Just saw this video on my friend Gabrielle Riel's blog Songs from The Nightingale

Quote from Gabi's blog: This stunning machinima "AWOL", was created by Lyric Lundquist. She says that Bettina's post on "SL is Killing Me" perfectly explains what she is portraying here.

I have always know that there was SL burn out, I have been fighting it for just over a year now. I can't deny that there are still glimmers and streaks of joy for me in SL, but there area also shadows and fissures of disappointment and defeat as well. I am lucky to have a small but very diverse and supportive network of people keeping me going.

To those of you who keep me going, you know who you are, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I can't promise that I can keep going for ever, but with your help, I will do my best not to let you down.

Edit Terrain & The Wandering Destructive

Please be aware of all settings on your land at all times.

EDIT TERRAIN in the About Land - Options screen allows anyone in Second Life to edit your terrain. There are moments where it is tempting and potentially useful to check this box to allow someone else to help edit the terrain on your parcel or homestead region.

There is an element of second life citizenry that look for such openings and use them to their fullest and most destructive application. In other words, if you leave this on, someone is going to come and make a mountain or sinkhole or drastic combination of both of your property.

In the event of drastic changes in height that bury your objects, this WILL force the auto return of your objects, with the due risk of some items not returning properly. We know how SL can be about such things.

If you do need to use this feature, please be very careful to uncheck it again as soon as possible.

Happy Terraforming!
Miss Serra

What's in the purse and why.

Cell Phone: Not sure really, my mother is the only person to call me. Everyone else emails.

Garage Door Opener: Gotta put the baby to bed every night

Notebook and Pen: In case I ever get around to writing down my ideas

Mascara and Lip-gloss: Can't leave the house without mascara on... ever! I tend to apply it while driving.

Keys: house, work, cars, friends houses.

Pink Mini Leatherman and Victorinox Swiss Card: Christmas gifts... xoxoxo <3

Passport: My Drivers License is expired

Debit and Credit Cards: I never carry cash. Cash = fast food stops = HUGE no no

Meds: Well you know... Doctor says I have to take them.

Fun and games with Ghosted Scripts!!

That's right, ghosted scripts! Just as we occasionally run into ghosted prims, prims that have been deleted and no longer show as counted in prim count nor can they be seen with highlight transparent turned on, but can be run into and block our movements, now we have ghosted scripts, too!

A current flaw somewhere in the system is allowing scripted objects that are deleted to leave behind a running script that weighs down our script times and contribute to lag within our regions. A work around has been discovered that allows ESTATE regions to deal with the problem, but leaves mainland high and dry. We can disable scripting, restart the region and then restore the scripting to run status. This clears any ghosted scripting left on the region.

Effectively immediately, all regions in Winterfell will have these steps taken once per week on a rotation schedule. Myself or Uni Ninetales will be handling this and will watch closely to make certain all regions come back up cleanly and script activity is restored promptly.

Please be certain to swing by and vote on the related JIRA issue:

SVC-3867

Please note that a Linden has already weighed in on the topic, but it remains unassigned for any actual work to begin.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to make sure that our regions all remain running smoothly.

I am looking for a personal assistant in Second Life.

I need someone organized, reliable, mature, preferably an English speaker and able to take charge and get things completed with out constant reminding.

Duties will include, but may or may not be limited to:

Adding, updating and completing information on the Winterfell Calendar. This may include checking my entries and adding SLURLS or descriptions

Listing Winterfell events on the SL events page

Post events on the NING

Occasionally host events for me if I am unable to attend

Sending group notices, IM’s and note cards on my behalf

Checking meters weekly for past due tier or rent

Attend monthly sim meeting to take minutes and quietly prompt me about things I am forgetting.

I am normally a well organized person, but I have so much going on between SL and RL that I run out of time and forget to do important things. If you would like to help me get my act in gear, please send me an email at serra.anansi@gmail.com.

This position will pay 4000L a week and only serious candidates need apply.

I will close the application process on Sunday March 1st and start interviews that following week.

Winterfell Library Presents -

WINTER IS COMING! A year long series of book discussions covering the much loved and highly acclaimed series from George RR Martin "A Song of Fire and Ice"

If you have not treated yourself to this fantastic series, I can not recomend it highly enough. If you start now, you still have time to read the first book and the first third of the second book. Join us to talk about your favorite characters, plot twists and predictions!

Saturday February 7th 3-4pm slt
Winterfell Palace Library, Winterfell Taure En Lor
http://slurl.com/secondlife/winterfell/130/190/25

Join us as we begin a three part discussion of "A Clash of Kings," book two in the "Song of Ice & Fire" series by author George R.R. Martin. This is a great time to jump into the series, and spreading the discussion over three dates means you don't have to have read the entire book by March 7. If you like adventure, suspense, a whisper of magic and drama, you will thoroughly enjoy this tale set in a mythical medieval country. George R.R. Martin has a huge group of loyal fans, and it's easy to see why once you begin reading his books.

help?

as you can see I am playing with my template again... a while back I uploaded a template and loved it, but I couldn't change the post title color. So I broke down and made my images to match that one color. Notice how my post title color is a redish orange?

Well I got tired of that theme and I wanted to change the colors from orange and browns to purples and blues. Notice the blog title image?

But I can't get the post title color to change. I am not totally in the dark on how to change the settings in the CSS code, but dang it if I can't figure this one out! I even went to one of the super basic blogger templates to hopefully clear what ever it was that kept that one setting orange.

Is anyone who reads this blog savy with the ins and outs of CSS code or the blogger templates? I need someone quite versed in the trouble shooting of blogs cause I am pretty sure I have exhausted all the possible easy fixes.

*cries*

Music soothes the soul

I have been listening to this music stream for a couple days now, I really like it. The station breaks are a bit silly, but the music is top notch!

http://85.17.36.141:8586

Vampiria Radio - The Europe's first Radio station Via Satellite & webradio,to feature the best in Gothic,Medieval,Darkwave,BreakCore,Experimental,Ambient and NeoFolk Music! ! Vampiria Radio brings Music to millions of Audience and listeners in Europe and Around the Globe!

Click here to visit their site!
**Warning - the site has a fetish slant with it's images - might not be safe for work environments**

I really hate the fact that to 90% of the world "gothic" is synonymous with fetish crazed vamp whores - but really, with that all said, the music played is wonderfully suited for the mind set of Winterfell

A Gentlemen's Duel

OMG, this little film is stuffed FULL of fantastic one liners!

"well, if it isn't the Marques De Manstrumpette"
"Please, Sir Dingleberry, let us not be childish"

love love LOVE it!

And I have been informed that this is *so* last year... LOL, I must live under a rock to have never seen it before... oh well! *giggles and runs off to watch it again*

*waves to Captain Wildstar* No, Sir, I am not on any kind of steampunk kick... not me. *grins innocently*

Hey, this sounds like fun!

There are two major conventions being planned, SLCC in San Francisco in August, and SteamCon in Seattle in October, that might be suitable for a meetup of the Realm of the Roses (in case you didn't know, that's what our land mass is called... it includes Winterfell, Independent State of Caledon, Lovelace and Zeppelinheim) and other friendly communities (New Babbage, Steelhead, Consulate of Europa Wulfenbach, Steeltopia, Orcadia, New Toulouse, Raglanshire, &c. and so on) from Second Life.

Please take a moment to complete a short survey here in order to gauge interest in either event, or to volunteer to help plan specialty programming.

OH WOW!

Look at this beauty!

oohhhhhhh can't wait!!
